What inspires me?
A question I'm almost always asked is - what inspires you? What makes you tick? What makes you want to get up in the morning and go create art? Why art?
I'm a stubborn person, so one of the reasons would be because people told me not to. You know the type, the 'art isn't a real degree' or the 'what sort of job will you possibly get from that?' people. Since I was a child, art has always held my attention. It means more to me than how much money I could make out of it.
It's such a clichè but my own parents inspired me, neither of them are artists or to my knowledge even really like art but it's the one thing that has always been my constant so they supported my choices and inspired me in time that I felt like I wasn't getting anywhere. Even now, in my final year of university and considering a masters, they are always there - reminding me why I love what I do.
I will always remember my parents taking me to MacManus Galleries when I was 10, a little gallery in my hometown Dundee, and just basically being in awe. I was fascinated, and found myself almost crying for no reason I could explain. I wanted to make art that effected people in the same way.
There are many artists that inspire me, they need a whole blog post to themselves! So until next time...
